Veterans Assistance Workshop

Today, June 6th, 2016 at 2pm, was the first scheduled ‘workshop’ for the Veteran’s Assistance project we’re attempting to begin for offender veterans, as well as ALL other veterans with help from various resources throughout Snohomish County. This is a great effort at a program to reach out to our Veterans and offer them opportunities which they may not know even exist. A lot of Vets out there feel the VA is all they have, and are discouraged at the lack of resources available through the VA itself. Including the length of time it takes to get your case heard. Offender veterans are perhaps more discouraged. Our monthly meeting is something we hope to get word out so they’re exposed to their other options, ones they have no idea exist. Things that will suit their needs, tailored to them, in a more immediate fashion. There have been many generous participants who can achieve things such as free college education, free counseling, free employment assistance, free legal aid, free housing for the homeless, housing assistance as well, free service animals, and more. Access to these benefits for the veterans will be as simple as coming in to one of our gatherings. We will teach about these resources as well as get them on track, and in touch with the right people immediately. Flyers have been posted in various areas between Marysville, and Mountlake Terrace. As we can tell, it may not be enough exposure. Our next attempt will be July 11th, and if you or anyone you know may have a veteran who visits your company, or in your acquaintance, please encourage them to try us out for one meeting. There are quite a few veterans out there – both in the DOC, and in regular population. If at all possible, please spread the word. We owe them that much.
