CrossFit Shenanigans to hold grand opening

Free Lance-Star - 7/19/2017

July 19--Army veteran Jeffry During knew how much working out at CrossFit Advocate in Stafford County helped him and others cope with PTSD.

So when the owners announced that they were going out of business, he and his family decided to buy the equipment and start their own box, as CrossFit gyms are called.

They opened CrossFit Shenanigans on May 1 at 32 Perchwood Dr., Unit 101, near Adventure Brewing in Stafford, and will hold their grand opening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.Aug. 12.

Stephanie During, Jeffry's wife, said they decided on calling their box CrossFit Shenanigans because every workout includes a different game or friendly competition. In one, a class was asked to lie on their stomachs, hook their arms around a piece of PVC pipe and compete to see who could be the first to stand up.

"It's a fun, energetic atmosphere," she said.

CrossFit Shenanigans holds morning and evening classes, as well as an open gym four days a week and a free community workout at 9 a.m. on Saturdays. It also offers a boot camp and CrossFit Kids program.

The Durings will be collecting school supplies to donate to other military families during the grand opening celebration.

"My family understands the struggles of living the military life, as well as life after the military re-entering the civilian world," said Stephanie During.
