FALL RIVER — Dennis Pereira, age 83, of Somerset, passed away Friday, August 19, 2016 in Charlton Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Eileen M. (O'Brien) Pereira to whom he had been married for 60 years.

Born in Fall River, the son of the late Manuel and Edith (Texeira) Pereira, he was a lifelong resident of Somerset and a graduate of Somerset High School, Class of 1951. Mr. Pereira was employed with Stop & Shop for 45 years as a Department Manager until his retirement in 1995.

Dennis was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local #328, past Vice President of the American Softball Association in Somerset, coached 15 years in the town of Somerset with the basketball, baseball, softball and hockey leagues. Mr. Pereira was also a United States Army Veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was an avid New England sports fan and enjoyed traveling.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 60 years are four children: Kathryn E. Michno and her husband Edward of Somerset, Dennis P. Pereira and his wife Elaine of Swansea, Elizabeth A. Chodkowski and her husband Paul of Somerset and Julie M. Ayres and her husband Douglas of Mobile, AL; seven grandchildren Edward Michno, J.D. Michno, Sarah Pereira, Chelsea Pereira, Mitchell Chodkowski, Casey Chodkowski and Matthew Ayres; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Pereira was also the brother of the late Edward M. Pereira.

His Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 11am in St. Patrick's Church306 South St., Somerset. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 8:30 to 10:30am in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Rose E. Sullivan 866 County St., Somerset. Burial will be private.
