BRIEF: Quilts of Valor honors veterans

May 02--Helenruth Schuette presents a quilt to Zillah Nelson, a United States Air Force veteran, and John Killian, a United State Marine Corps veteran accepts one from Margaret McNea for the Quilts of Valor Foundation on Monday morning in the Beltrami County Veterans Service Office.

The quilts were presented by members of Bemidji'sHeadwaters Quilt Guild. A Quilt of Valor is a lifetime award given to U.S. military service members and veterans who have been touched by war. The quilts are awarded locally to members known by the quilt maker or in the quilt maker's community. There are chapters of the Quilts of Valor Foundation in every state and 136,295 quilts have been awarded so far.
